A mother and 5-year-old son from Tracy, California died from personal injuries suffered in an auto accident on Highway 41 south of the Kern and Kings County lines.
The victims were identified as Melissa Granados, 27, and her 5-year-old son Ayden Weaver. The accident was caused by a northbound pickup lost control after one of its tires were shredded causing him to veer into the southbound lanes of Highway 41.
Granados was killed on impact as her car rolled and then burst into flames.
Granados’ son Ayden survived the initial crash but was pronounced dead four hours later after rescue workers attempted giving him emergency medical attention.
The driver and passenger of the pickup received serious injuries but survived.
